How we review
Let's be upfront: we are not a testing lab. We don't have one product on a bench for a week. We do something most review sites don't — we read everything, and we show our work.
What goes into every review
Before we publish a verdict, we work through every useful source we can find for that one product:
- Reddit and specialist forums — where owners complain honestly, months after the honeymoon ends.
- Video reviews — including the comment sections, which are often more honest than the videos.
- Editorial and expert coverage — summarized in their words, with links, never rewritten as ours.
- Long-term ownership reports — reliability patterns, part availability, what breaks at month eight.
One line we never cross: we don't scrape or republish retailer review content, and no data on this site comes from Amazon reviews or star ratings. Community and editorial sources only.
The Verdict Score
Every review ends with a single 0–100 quality index. It reflects how well the product delivers for the people who own it — performance, reliability, value-for-money, and how owners feel months in.
| Score | Band | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 90–100 | Exceptional | Owners would buy it again without hesitating. Complaints are rare and minor. |
| 80–89 | Excellent | Delivers on its promises. The complaints that exist are livable. |
| 70–79 | Good | Solid, with real trade-offs you should know before paying. |
| 60–69 | Mixed | Real strengths, real problems. Read the whole review first. |
| 45–59 | Below average | The complaint patterns outweigh the praise at this price. |
| 0–44 | Poor | The evidence says stay away. |
Buy, Wait, or Skip — and why it's separate from the score
The score measures quality. The rating is our buying advice, and the two are deliberately independent. A genuinely excellent product can still be the wrong purchase this month — because a successor is weeks away, or because it goes on sale like clockwork.
- Buy
The evidence says this product delivers. Owners would buy it again.
- Wait
Good product, wrong moment — a successor, a sale, or a fix is close. Timing advice, not a quality knock.
- Skip
The evidence points to real problems or better alternatives at this price.
Counting beats cherry-picking
Any review can quote three happy owners. We count instead: how many owner reports we read, how many praised the battery, how many hit the same Wi-Fi bug. That's why our reviews show mention counts and a sentiment percentage — so you can see the pattern, not our favorite quotes. The same counts appear in the methodology box at the bottom of every review.
Our honesty rules
- We never claim testing we didn't do. When we cite an expert's measurement, it's attributed and linked.
- Every review lists its sources. If we couldn't find enough evidence for a section, the section doesn't appear — we don't pad.
- Affiliate commissions never touch the verdict. We recommend Skip on products we could earn from, and we mark every affiliate link. Full disclosure here.
- Verdicts get revisited when the evidence changes — firmware fixes, price drops, or a complaint pattern that grows.
